AVARICE IN WONDERLAND.

You took out a loan
To keep up with the Jones
But if they go bankrupt
Will you?
You re-mortgaged your home
To keep up with the loan
But the rates are going right up
Your flue.

You skipped on a payment
Of your mortgage arrangement
To accommodate an alcohol
Binge.
You spent the deferment
On a weekends enjoyment
Because of the stress your
Job brings.

Then you woke up one Monday,
And realised it weren’t Sunday,
And couldn’t be arsed to get out
Of bed.
You took a sicky till Thursday,
But Friday was a worse day,
As your employer sent you home
Instead.

You received mail in the morning
From your bankers informing
That they’ve had enough of your
Excess.
You shrugged off the warning,
And continued free falling,
Until you slid into
Distress.

And now you look at your fate,
And the bank’s repo date,
And realise that nothing’s
Unjust,
As it’s a year to the day
That the cash came your way
And all of the Joneses
Went bust.
