In case I fall asleep tonight
I’ll paint my eyelids blue,
Then if you wander by my site
You’ll see me watching you.
I’ve sat outside upon my stoop,
Before a million flowers,
Certain that we’ll share this route,
Again, if the gods allow us.
I can recall a fleeting glimpse
Of someone who looked similar,
Though that was thirty years since,
And somehow unfamiliar.
Gone sixty now and grown into
These steps outside my door,
I can’t remember much of you,
But still I’ll wait some more.
